Honoring the Energy That Elevates Us: Congratulations to Richard Elam

Some people bring skill to their work. Others bring commitment. But every so often, we have the privilege of working alongside someone who brings something even more powerful: energy that inspires, motivates, and pushes our entire organization forward. Richard Elam is a recent recipient of the JANUS Energy Award.

The Energy Award recognizes employees who consistently go above and beyond to spark progress and deliver results. Whether through identifying new business opportunities, contributing to winning proposals, or elevating customer experiences, recipients demonstrate a rare combination of drive, insight, and positivity.

Rich Elam has delivered exceptional service to the Army National Guard Bureau's Controlled Humidity Asset Program through meticulous state-level reporting and performance metrics. He completely rewrote the overarching NGB Corrosion Prevention and Control (CPC) regulatory publication, leveraging this revision as an opportunity to introduce a structured, institutionalized schedule. This schedule enables CPC stakeholders—including TACOM and CECOM—to coordinate visits across all fifty-four states and territories in a synergistic and efficient manner.

The impact of Rich's efforts is significant: his approach ensures that multiple Department of the Army-level CPC surveys can be conducted simultaneously, minimizing operational disruptions and reducing the burden of overlapping surveys within a fiscal year. Building on this success, Rich developed a comprehensive end-of-FY25 funding plan, which was approved by the ARNG G44 Branch Chief. This plan secured resources for procuring a substantial number of new T1B structures for the program.

Through his strategic foresight in securing this funding, Rich enabled the induction of three additional states into the ARNG CPC-CHAP program. This expansion will drive long-term benefits, including increased corrosion-related cost savings and improved readiness across the ARNG.
