Celebrating Our JANUS Energy Award Winner: Dr. Lucas Kotz

04/13/2026

At JANUS Research Group (JANUS), we believe energy fuels excellence. Today, we are proud to celebrate an employee who truly embodies what it means to bring passion, drive, and positive momentum to everything he does. Please join us to congratulate Dr. Lucas Kotz, recipient of the JANUS Energy Award.

The Energy Award is one of the most meaningful recognitions within our organization. It honors team members who not only deliver exceptional results but do so with a consistently high level of enthusiasm, dedication, and initiative. This award recognizes those who uplift the people around them, strengthen our customer relationships, and contribute to the company's growth.

Dr. Kotz was recognized for his exceptional innovation, technical expertise, and mission-focused support to the Future Study Program's STAFFEX and the Chief of Staff of the Army's Wargame. When the Future Study Program event venue at Collins Hall, Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, transitioned from a closed, customizable network environment to a DoD365-Sec (IL6) SIPR enterprise-only architecture, previously relied upon observation collection and survey tools were no longer viable for event execution. Dr. Kotz immediately stepped forward to research secure alternatives available within the SIPR environment and, in remarkably short order, developed and fielded replacement capabilities for operational use during STAFFEX. His initiative ensured uninterrupted analytical support and preserved critical data collection functions essential to mission success.

In a parallel effort to modernize Future Study Program analytical capabilities, Dr. Kotz rapidly became a subject matter expert in the Army Intelligence Data Platform (AIDP), enabling the development of the AIDP splash page used in support of STAFFEX and the Chief of Staff of the Army's Wargame. By helping introduce cutting-edge generative artificial intelligence capabilities into a classified Army environment, he empowered analysts with advanced language model tools for the first time in support of the event. This breakthrough capability will provide quantitative data to significantly enhance analysis of the 2040 Scenario Required Force and inform future Army force design decisions.

Despite being relatively new to the team, Dr. Kotz demonstrated exceptional initiative by building and delivering participant briefings that familiarized attendees with SIPR workstation access procedures, the event SharePoint site, and navigation of the AIDP splash page. His ability to rapidly integrate, lead technical adoption, and improve user effectiveness materially enhanced the event's operational readiness.

We are grateful for the energy he brings to JANUS every day, and we are excited to recognize his impact through this award. Congratulations, Dr. Kotz—your dedication truly makes a difference.
