Position Overview
- Ensures that transactions are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Responsible for account analysis and reconciliations, variance analysis, and monitoring the integrity of system generated calculations
- Interface with budget owners to provide insight into financial results by business unit, G/L account coding for purchase requisitions
- Supports audit requests
- Participates in evaluating, improving and documenting policies and procedures
- Prepares month-end close journal entries, accruals and system processes in accordance with the month-end close schedule to ensure timely reporting
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, such as prepaids, bank accounts, IT stock and liabilities
- Manage fixed assets in Costpoint monitoring CAPEX transactions in accordance with capitalization policies and posting depreciation
- Works with registered agent on new state registrations and annual renewals and tracking state requirements
- Ensures transactions are properly coded and applied to the correct budget
- Maintains and monitors recurring journal entries
- Comprehends and troubleshoots complex accounting items such as revenue recognition, R&D costs, lease accounting and system related variances etc.
- Supports monitoring of internal controls
- Work with Procurement team to correctly apply sales tax rates for purchases
- Reviews transactions for proper support documentation and is attached to each transaction in Costpoint
- Works with and supports A/P and A/R personnel
- Prepares specific month-end reports for distribution and analysis
- Some knowledge of FAR and understands unallowable charges
- Understands cost pools and how they affect financial results
- Self-starter and detail oriented to ensure accurate financial statements
Required:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, finance, with 5-7 years’ experience as an Accountant, Financial Analyst or similar
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive professional accounting experience in a Federal contractor environment
- Knowledge of US GAAP
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint ERP system
- Strong Excel knowledge (formula creation, graphs, dashboards) for data analysis
- Advanced analytical skills
- Problem-solver with a solution-based attitude
- Collaborative and team player
- Experience with Cognos and report writing in a Deltek Costpoint table environment (preferred)
- Eager to provide input for process and system improvement
- Proactively report issues, concerns, results, etc. to Controller
- Willingness to “own” the general ledger and scrutinize for accuracy
