Technical Editor/Support Operations Action Officer (Full Time)
Duty Location: Fort Eustis, VA
Supporting the FCC Army and Joint Concept Division and Future Study Plan Task Orders, this position requires an applicant who is a self-starter with the ability to prioritize workloads and adjust priorities based on new guidance. Must be comfortable in fluid task environments and frequent engagement with Army/Joint/DoD senior leaders.
Tech Editor (Workload 60%): Upon request, write, edit and rephrase concept documents and turn them into outputs for internal and external audiences. Must proof read draft documents and product deliverables to ensure they are grammatically correct and follow Army writing standards in accordance with AR 25-50, Preparing and Managing Correspondence. Prepare and edit visualization products in coordination with the government Army Operating Concept (AOC) Writing Team; Conduct Literature Research, Analysis, and Synthesis to discover, analyze, and synopsize literature that is relevant to the development of new concepts. Research literature includes strategic guidance; potential adversaries and threat descriptions and analyses; Future Operating Environment descriptions, final reports, and recommendations from past wargames, studies, analyses, experiments, tests and reports on emerging technologies; and Joint and Sister Service concepts.
Support Operations Action Officer (Workload 40%): Assists in planning and coordinating mission support and services for events such as wargames, seminar wargames, workshops, and conferences. These events range from 10-400 participants one to fourteen days in duration, and are primarily conducted at Carlisle Barracks, PA. Applicant provides event support, modifying aspects of the Event Plan of Execution to meet event objectives and other requirements identified by the Government. Develops content which includes how the event will be executed; how the event will support objectives (provided by the Government); space, personnel, and equipment requirements; and schedule of events. Assists in all event establishment and termination activities, to include in-processing participants, monitoring security requirements, and coordinating and tracking all participant government computer connectivity. Coordinates support for all Janus part-time on call event personnel.
Specific knowledge, skills, and experience include:
Capacity to work with a great deal of independence and multiple, concurrent efforts without technical supervision and the ability to follow schedules associated with assignments.
Knowledge of English grammar, writing, proofreading, editing practices, and familiarity with the requirements of DoD policy and regulations
Knowledge of the specialized grammar and writing guidelines as they pertain to the preparation of Army Concept documents.
Ability to select, analyze, and present information in an organized, logical, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to gain cooperation from others. Skill in writing papers for publication.
Experience developing and maintaining databases with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and Personal Identifiable Information (PII)
Bachelor’s Degree: Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing or other related discipline
3+ years of experience with editing publications, on-line publications or similar products
Experience with DoD/Army preferred
Experience with basic data analytic tools and methodologies
Experience with developing graphics or other visualizations in support of document publication
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, Access, and advanced desktop publishing software and their applications to write and edit reports.
Travel: 10 – 15%
