Software Engineer - NCWT

Position Overview

As a Software Engineer, the candidate will maintain, develop, and enhance the Net-Centric Waveform Tool (NCWT). The Network-Centric Waveform Tool is a Microsoft Windows software application designed to analyze NCW satellite communications networks and estimate the satellite power and bandwidth requirements needed to support the NCW networks.

As a Software Engineer, you will maintain and enhance the existing NCWT software, adding new features, adapting to changes in fielded capabilities, update algorithms, develop new net-centric interfaces and APIs. You will support the complete software development lifecycle including design, code, integration, technical documentation, and testing.


  • Perform software design, development, and test in C++ using Visual Studio
  • Develop, maintain embedded SQL database
  • Develop, maintain automated test scripts
  • Develop, maintain installation program
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and subject matter experts to refine requirements
  • Support test execution, troubleshooting, and defect resolution
  • Develop and review software designs for appropriateness, completeness, and recommend changes to support project objectives
  • Review and assess designs for compliance with computer/network security best practices
  • Configuration management of source code and artifact baseline

Required Skills / Experience:

  • Secret Clearance
  • Ph.D. and 3 years applicable experience, or Master’s Degree and 6 years applicable experience, or Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years applicable experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows 7/10, Visual Studio C++, and SQL
  • Experience with software optimization and performance tuning tools and techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel, up to 10%

Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Master’s degree in software engineering, computer science, or related discipline
  • Experience working as a member of an agile software development team (e.g., Scrum, Kanban)
  • Experience developing modeling and simulation software
  • Experience planning and leading projects
  • Experience working with satellite or other communications systems
  • Experience developing desktop graphical user interfaces with Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC)
  • Experience with secure application development practices
