JANUS Team Member Caleb Hicks Celebrates 10 Years
05/25/2025

Lead Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) Caleb Hicks is celebrating 10 years with JANUS Research Group (JANUS).
Caleb is from a small town in Missouri and chose to further his education at Williams Baptist College in Arkansas after high school. There, his talent was quickly recognized by Dr. Summer-Lee DeProw, then the chair of the business department. JANUS' connections with colleges and universities throughout the country are one of our favorite ways of identifying talent like Caleb's. Dr. DeProw's mentoring of Caleb combined with JANUS' recruiting efforts led to Caleb beginning his career with JANUS as an intern supporting the National Guard's Information and Technology Training Center, where he quickly made a difference through hard work, dedication, and a willingness to do whatever needed to be done to grow the team and his own knowledge and skill set. Caleb decided to make JANUS his work home after college, and over the last 10 years Caleb has earned the necessary certifications to become the team lead for JANUS' Battle Lab Computer Simulation Environment (BLCSE) team.
Prior to his current position, Caleb showed his incredible passion for growth by relocating to Fort Huachuca, Arizona to provide Information Assurance (IA) support for the Intelligence Center of Excellence (ICOE) Battle Laboratory, where he spent several successful years. In three short months, Caleb went from knowing absolutely nothing about Risk Management Framework (RMF) to being knowledgeable enough to become the only ISSO at the BLCSE site at Fort Huachuca. In addition, he not only ensured a successful transition of the BLCSE program at Fort Huachuca from DIACAP to RMF, but in just six months he overcame a skeptical leadership who went from not seeing a need for the program to seeing and acknowledging its importance. Furthermore, Caleb has ensured the continuous authorization approvals for three separate BLCSE sites during the transitions between multiple accreditation standards. As a direct result of Caleb's work, JANUS has maintained the BLCSE contract for many years.
When family reasons required Caleb to transfer closer to home, he chose to stay with JANUS, landing at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE) Battle Laboratory at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he continues to provide exceptional IA solutions. Caleb led the Maneuver Support Battle Lab's transition from RMF 1.0 to RMF 2.0–an endeavor that required continuous network monitoring–acquiring full ATO ConMon in December 2024. He also created the eMASS Update Guide, to assist previously accredited systems with updating to meet the RMF 2.0 standards. FCC leadership approved of the guide and encouraged sharing it with others to help them meet the new standards.
Caleb's clear communication and support to teammates set him apart as a go-to person for IA tasks. As a subject matter expert, Caleb is second to none. He loves his work and that has translated into earning several awards and recognitions from the client as well as within JANUS. He is planning to obtain his CISSP certification and complete a master's degree in cybersecurity. Both David Sales and Annie Richardson have been instrumental in mentoring Caleb during his time with JANUS, and both believe Caleb will achieve any goal to which he aspires. While his love of home, family, and video games is well known, Caleb's dedication and commitment to JANUS is just as much a part of who he is.
JANUS is proud to celebrate Caleb's 10th work anniversary and we look forward to his many contributions and accomplishments to come in the years ahead.
