JANUS Team Member Robert Riley Celebrates 10 Years

Assistant Program Manager Robert (Rob) Riley is celebrating 10 years with JANUS Research Group (JANUS) in March. Rob has been with JANUS since March of 2015 when he started as an operations support specialist for the C3 Services Division. During that time, Rob supported C3 by providing day-to-day operational support. He mainly handled travel for the two major programs (e.g., WIN-T and PM TR) being executed at the time. In 2016, Rob maintained his responsibilities handling all travel for WIN-T and TR, but also increased his workload exponentially, by taking over MSRs, travel, SpendPlans, review of invoices, and overseas travel coordination for the evolved C4ISR business unit. His work ethic and dedication to JANUS and our employees were second to none. His never-say-no attitude and concern for every employee within JANUS established him as a critical and essential part of the C4ISR team. Rob then began operating as the senior project control specialist for PM TR, PM TR SETAP, PMO Network Enablers, and TCM TR. Rob managed the travel, SpendPlans, MSRs, interaction with employees, overseas travel actions, reconciliation activities, WIN-T financial information, review of monthly hours against additional hour approvals, subcontractor invoice reviews, C4ISR property accountability, and more. Rob was doing the work of eight people.
In 2018, Rob began to interface with the program managers, government contracting officer representatives, and our team members across more than 16 programs/task orders. Rob was the staff go-to guy for executing the hard-to-do tasks and missions. By December of 2018, Rob was essentially operating as an assistant program manager, with expanded responsibilities across the C4ISR business unit. He became the liaison between APG government contract officers, partner contracting companies, office managers and corporate staff for PMO support. This included accounting, information technology, purchase orders, travel, service contract support, and human resources activities. At the time he also provided corporate oversight of contract funding efforts valued at more than $145M.
Throughout 2019, Rob supported Paul Cyr and Joe Bailey effectively as an assistant program manager for the C4ISR Division where his managerial role was expanded exponentially. He went from providing corporate oversight of five contract efforts to effectively supporting the full management of 16 contract efforts and more than 270 JANUS employees and subcontractors.
This dedicated support continued in 2020, as Rob was a determined program manager focused on supporting the troops. He valued relationships and the people and always led by example. His personal and direct leadership approach drove confidence and reassurance to our JANUS team members. His efforts directly impacted on the performance of the team. He set the standard by demonstrating the highest level of work ethic and integrity for each of our employees to emulate. The JANUS team members recognized his passion and enthusiasm and worked hard to meet that standard. Rob led by example and the team responded positively by demonstrating the highest levels of performance for the customers and for our employees.
As the assistant program manager, Rob was responsible for all C4ISR programs. He consistently and vigorously met deliverable deadlines each month. He, along with the C4ISR team, established a battle rhythm that ensured all deliverables were on time and accurate. From monthly status reports to SpendPlans, Rob was engaged and involved in delivering the highest quality of products in support of prime and subcontract efforts ensuring our customers were always satisfied. Additionally, Rob constantly looked for opportunities to implement efficiencies and process improvements. Working together with the C4ISR team, Rob implemented and utilized proven process improvements across all of his programs. Most importantly, Rob continually implemented these proven processes across newly awarded contracts which are continuing to build overarching efficiencies within the Combat Capabilities and Systems Engineering Solutions (C2S2) business unit. These efficiencies continue to build customer confidence and drive solid relationships with our partners and our people.
Rob is also engaged in both business development and capture activities as applicable to the C2S2 campaign strategies. Rob is a reliable and engaged team member and subject matter expert in all C2S2 PMO efforts. He works around the clock to ensure the best possible programmatic solutions and results are achieved by the JANUS team. His tireless efforts have directly resulted in SETA work for the C2S2 business unit. His persistent pursuit of excellence drives the C2S2 efforts and allows the team to maintain its confidence in producing high quality products, executing programs, and driving growth and revenue on current programs, all during very difficult and demanding times.
Finally, Rob cares about people. His number one responsibility is his family, our staff, and our employees. He is constantly engaged and present for all of them. He builds personal relationships and ensures each one feels part of the JANUS family. Rob is a true leader in every sense of the word. He impacts people in a positive way no matter what he is doing. He cares, he works hard, and he leads by example. Happy 10th Anniversary, Rob. You are deeply appreciated and JANUS is fortunate to have you.
