DECK SELF-ASSESSMENT AND GROOM TRAINING TEAM RECOGNIZED WITH THE TEAM SHIPS PROPELLER AWARD

JANUS Research Group's (JANUS) Deck Self-Assessment and Groom Training (D-SAGT) team has received the Team Ships Propeller Award which recognizes excellence in team ships. The team includes Mr. Michael Sweitzer, Mr. Shawn Larrison, Mr. Deon Wray and Mr. Kevin Youngblood.
Their contributions as members in the D-SAGT, which employs a blended learning solution by combining "classroom learning" with "hands-on training" to convey theory and knowledge to multiple ratings, was instrumental in establishing the gold standard for hands-on training. This training fosters confidence, ownership, and procedural compliance in Assessment, Operations, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting of Deck and Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) Systems.
D-SAGT's portfolio is comprised of 123 ships, encompasses CG47, DDG 51, DDG 1000, LHD 1, LHA 6, LSD 41, and LPD 17 ship classes, and includes multiple platforms in new construction.
With each individual's support, the team was able to deliver 51 successful Missions and Limited Team Training events, training over 1,000 Sailors, identified solutions to Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and technical manual deficiencies for multiple systems on the DDG 51 ship class as well as the 20/30/60 ton cranes on the LSD 41 ship class, and provided program updates, lessons learned, and best practices to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Type Commands (TYCOMS), Destroyer Squadron/Amphibious Squadron (DESRON/PHIBRON) staffs, Afloat Training Groups (ATGs), schoolhouse/course managers and ships.
Their efforts supported multiple stakeholders (within NAVSEA, across the Surface Enterprise, and on Ships) in the refinement of Front-End Analysis, Navy Training Systems Plans, schoolhouse course builds, and validation of Ships Change Documents.
