JANUS Team Member Gregory Rock Celebrates 20 Years

Gregory (Greg) Rock is celebrating his 20th anniversary with JANUS Research Group (JANUS). Greg currently serves as an operational architect, Cyber Center of Excellence, Fort Eisenhower, Architecture Integration Management Division (AIMD), Futures and Concepts Center (FCC), Fort Eustis.

Greg first joined JANUS as a systems engineer for the Signal Center, Directorate Combat Development where he worked on the development of communications capabilities necessary to support the United States Army's new Future Combat Systems program. Since this initial position, Greg also served as a capability developer in support of the Signal Center, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) capability manager (TCM) for networks and services before transitioning to his current role as an operational architect serving as the site lead at Fort Eisenhower.

Greg loves what he does, and it shows. In his time with JANUS he has received four Energy Awards, JANUS' internal award recognizing outstanding individual achievements. His contributions to operational architecture have been a huge asset to the organization. There are no real feeder positions in the Army or from the civilian sector to produce operational architects. JANUS' architecture training program and the development of the program by the Fort Eisenhower team, of which Greg has been an integral part, have been critical to enabling JANUS to quickly fill positions and ensure we achieve all contract requirements and are fully trained and capable.

In his 20 years with JANUS, Greg has worked on many projects, including Future Combat Systems, Warfighter Information Network - Tactical (WIN-T), and Integrated Tactical Network (ITN) programs. He has been instrumental to many Army Signal programs, such as WIN-T, that produced crucial combat communications capabilities for soldiers.

Greg thrives on knowing he is part of a team that helps the Army produce important capabilities, and knowing he is making a real difference to the soldier on the battlefield. Ensuring the Army has everything it needs to effectively and efficiently communicate in the field motivates Greg to keep giving his best to every project with which he is involved. "Every program Greg works on is absolutely critical to our nation's soldiers and their Army leaders' ability to execute their combat mission," says John Moelter, CDID/CFT architecture lead/integrator, AIMD, "from being able to make supply requests to requesting MEDIVAC assistance to save soldiers' lives."

With 20 years of dedication to JANUS, Greg has most assuredly become a mentor to many. Who mentors Greg' Bill Raeth, an operational architect with Army Cyber CDID, has been invaluable in training him on the tools used to develop operational architecture and all the requirements to support Army decisions on modernization. Building strong teams is always our number one goal. Greg's continued drive to produce the best products and provide the utmost attention to the Army is a true inspiration, as is his plan to stay with JANUS until he decides to retire sometime in the "distant future." When you love what you do - and are as good at it as Greg is - you just want to keep doing it. We're so glad Greg wants to keep doing it here at JANUS!
