Network Engineer-Modeling & Simulation

Position Overview

Candidate will support the PM Warfighter Information Network-Tactical Modeling & Simulation and Emulation activities in support of tactical network and systems providing secure and reliable data, voice and video communications in a tactical environment. Engineers embedded in the ETB lab provide technical expertise with an emphasis on the following areas of responsibility: system integration, system testing, data analysis, and IT infrastructure and M&S management.

System integration: Work with fellow members of the PM WIN-T Inc 3 team to integrate new network components (e.g., virtual Firewall, TGEN traffic stimulator, TACLANE, networked applications, Lower-tier Tactical Internet, etc.) into the WIN-T Emulation Testbed at the Communications Systems Development Center (CSDC).

System testing: Conduct system-level testing of the WIN-T Emulation Testbed with the objective of evaluating that the overall performance of the network is either improved or not negatively impacted by the integration of additional network components.

Data analysis: Perform post-test data analysis on the WIN-T Emulation Testbed to evaluate the performance of the emulated network. Generate graphical data charts at both high- and low-level granularity to investigate anomalies observed in the test run.

Other auxiliary tasks include:

Technical documentation: Write tutorials on how to perform a specific task (e.g., how to install/configure virtual Firewalls; how to upgrade/configure TACLANE, etc.). Maintain a central depository of technical documentation in a shared drive that can be accessed by other members of the PM WIN-T.

Daily test logging. Keep track of daily logging of test runs during a testing event. Logging information includes, but is not limited to, start/end end time of test run, system configurations, stimulated traffic profile, database generated, anomalies observed during test run, etc. Activity logging helps provide backward traceability while performing data analysis.

Special Requirements:

  • SECRET Clearance required

Experience and Education:

  • Data analysis, system integration (TACLANE, Virtual Firewall, etc.) and testing Programming Languages: C/C++, PostgreSQL, MySQL, PERL
  • Engineering Applications: TGEN, MGEN, Wireshark, OPNET, Matlab, AutoCAD Operating Systems: VMWare, Ubuntu, RedHat, Windows OS
  • Working knowledge and understanding of current force/future C4ISR networks a plus.
  • Subject matter expert for components within the current WIN-T suite of equipment a plus.
  • BS Degree in Engineer or Computing Sciences
